In 2017, Sawsan Chebli, Plenipotentiary of the State of Berlin to the Federal Government and State Secretary for Civic Engagement and International Affairs, initiated the #FARBENBEKENNEN campaign. Her goal was to "bring about a change of perspective" and to make it clear that, due to their multifaceted commitment and engagement, refugees actively enrich Germany and especially Berlin, their new home.
Under the motto "Typically German", the launch campaign portrayed the stories of impressive New Berliners and their individual projects and initiatives, through which they expressed their appreciation of being part of a free society.
The campaign was accompanied by films and a live event that called on all Berliners to show their colours – to the people who have come to us and to protect our free, open society.

FATUMA MUSA AFRAH
Fatuma was born in Somalia and fled to Germany in 2014. Today, she is an activist for women's rights, integration and development aid.
FIRAS ALSHATER
Firas fled from Syria to Germany in 2013. Today, as an author, video blogger and filmmaker, he brings Germans and refugees together.
RAND RAJAB
Rand Rajab fled Syria for Germany in 2015. Today, she lives here as a student, sings in the Berlin Hope Choir and is committed to international understanding.
SINAN MOHAMMED
Sinan fled from Iraq to Germany in 2015. Today, he works here as a reporter for a German-Arabic online and TV format.
DR. RASHA ALKHADRA
Rasha fled Syria for Germany with her three daughters in 2015. Today, the dentist runs a YouTube channel and is also a podcast author for an intercultural radio show.
HADI ALBARI
Hadi fled to Germany from the West Bank in 2015. Today, he is a trained paramedic and volunteers as a basketball coach for children in Berlin.
ABDUL SATAR MOHAMMADI
Abdul fled from Afghanistan to Germany in 2014. Today, he helps other refugees with visits to the authorities and with translations. He is also training to be an electrical engineer.
MOHAMMED NOOR AL GHOSH
Mohammed, a medical student, fled Syria for Germany in 2014. Today, he is the founder of a blood donation organisation.
